Koloa Zipline offers eight long, scenic runs across a historic sugar plantation reclaimed by nature—think jungle, gulches, and wide-open water. You can ride seated or try their signature superhero-style harness for a horizontal glide over some of Kauai’s most dramatic views, including the island’s longest zipline. FOLIO TRAVELOGUE

Ziplining That Actually Delivers.

I’ll be honest, ziplining wasn’t on my Hawaii to-do list. I figured it would be fifteen minutes of harness adjustments followed by two seconds of adrenaline and a souvenir photo. But Koloa Zipline? Totally different game.

First, the scale. These aren’t little bunny slopes of zip tours. You’re flying over old sugar cane fields that have been taken back by nature—dense jungle, twisted trees, open gulches. There’s a stretch where you’re just gliding across the Waita Reservoir, which used to power one of the oldest sugar plantations on Kauai. Now it’s glassy and wide and eerie in the best way. You go full Superman—literally horizontal, arms out, wind howling in your ears. It's absurd and awesome.

“Went full Superman over a reservoir. Would do it again.”

The guides don’t phone it in either. They’re cracking jokes, dropping bits of plantation history and island knowledge without sounding like a tour script. There’s a laid-back respect for the land and its past, not the typical resort polish. Somewhere between runs they hand you a granola bar and some Hawaiian snacks, and you realize you’re not just zipping through trees—you’re getting a whole different perspective on this place.

By the end, you’ve done eight runs and probably screamed a few times, but what sticks is how it all felt: intense, hilarious, grounded. You’re out in the elements, moving fast, no phones, no distractions—just you, some strangers, and this wild stretch of Kauai that doesn’t care who you are. It’s one of those rare things that feels both totally ridiculous and kind of essential.
