“An unforgettable ride - ocean views, turtles, and the friendliest staff ever.”

There aren’t many places where you can ride a horse along the ocean, but this trail on O‘ahu’s North Shore lets you do just that—across sand, past ironwood groves, with the Wai‘anae Range behind you and waves rolling in beside you. Whether you go during the day, when the sky is bright and breezy, or opt for the golden-hour magic of a sunset ride, this is about as scenic and peaceful as it gets. It’s an easygoing tour, beginner-friendly, with small groups and guides who know the land. Yes, it’s a photo-op—but it’s also a genuinely grounding way to take in the island.

FOLIO TRAVELOGUE
Riding the Shoreline on O‘ahu’s West Side
You ride out past the old polo field, cross under a tunnel of ironwood trees, and suddenly you're on sand—ocean stretching wide to your left, the Wai‘anae Range rising behind you. The horses are calm, surefooted, retired pros who know the trail like it's home. No drama, no rush. Just you, the rhythm of hooves, and the sound of waves breaking a few feet away.
“Didn’t expect much. Got one of my favorite hours in Hawai‘i.”
It’s rare to be this close to the shoreline without a crowd, a cooler, or a parking lot. Here, it’s just wind, salt air, and the occasional set of surf breaking in the distance. You pass sea turtles. You look back and realize how far you’ve gone without noticing. The guides keep it relaxed—there when you need them, quiet when you don’t.
This isn’t a lesson or a show. It’s just an hour or so in a place that’s easy to forget exists. And from the back of a horse, it feels both timeless and completely unexpected.
