“My son and I got up and floating in no time — really professional and awesome instructor.”

Efoiling feels like cheating gravity. With a gentle learning curve and electric propulsion doing the heavy lifting, you’ll lift off from the surface and cruise silently just above the water. The 90-minute lesson begins with a land-based demo before you’re guided step-by-step into your first flights. It’s a surreal and exhilarating experience—think snowboarding meets hoverboard meets wave riding—with a cap of three boards in the water to keep things focused and safe. Whether you're a first-timer or a thrill-seeker looking for something new, efoiling is one of the most unique water experiences on Kauai.

FOLIO TRAVELOGUE
Flying Just Above the Surface
The first time you lift off the surface, it feels like the ocean lets go of you. You’re up, floating above the chop, the hum of the motor barely audible under the wind. It’s not surfing, not quite—but it’s got the same rush, the same need for balance, the same dance with gravity. Only here, you're skimming three inches above the water and grinning like an idiot.
We started on the beach, getting the basics—remote throttle in one hand, knees to standing, lean to turn. Simple enough on land. Then came the part where you realize the board is motorized and absolutely not forgiving if you treat it like a pool toy. The first ten minutes were awkward. By twenty, I was gliding.
“It felt like the ocean let go of me—and I didn’t want to come back down.”
Out in the bay, the water turned glassy. There were just three of us out—small group by design. That helped. No pressure. No lineup to compete with. Just the instructor nearby, calm, offering a quick tip here, a small nod there. And then, just flight. I caught myself watching my own shadow move beneath me across the sea floor.
People always talk about new ways to see Kauai—from a helicopter, from a ridge trail, from a kayak. This? This was different. It was the same coastline, same sun, same scent of salt in the air—but tilted just enough to feel entirely new. It’s not about going fast or looking cool (though, fair warning, you will). It’s about hovering between ocean and sky, and feeling—for a moment—weightless.
