  • About

Experience an unforgettable adventure in paradise with a personalized guided tour at Leilani Farm.Sanctuary. Explore nature, meet friendly farm animals, and learn about the history of the land and the animals who reside there. Kiss a donkey or deer, cuddle a chicken, pet the friendly cats, give a pig a belly rub, brush the goats and feed carrots to furry rabbits. The tour lasts approximately one hour.

Leilani Farm Sanctuary , an all-volunteer non-profit 501 (c)3 organization, is located on nearly eight heavenly acres of tropical land, and home to rescued goats, cats, geese, donkeys, sheep, rabbits, tortoises, pigs, ducks, deer, guinea pigs, and a swan. The sanctuary was named in honor of Leilani, the farm’s first resident donkey. It was created to provide shelter and care for abused and rescued animals, and humane education to the community.

At the sanctuary, there are rolling green pastures for goats and donkeys to graze, hundreds of trees for the cats to climb, a botanical garden for rabbits, and jungle environments for the chickens to explore. The sanctuary is truly a paradise for animals who have been rescued from a life of deprivation and have an opportunity to enjoy a bit of heaven right here on earth.

FOLIO TRAVELOGUE

Rescued & Loved: A Heartfelt Encounter at Leilani Farm Sanctuary

Greeted by the gentle clatter of hooves and the soft bleats of goats, I felt at once welcomed and humbled at Leilani Farm Sanctuary in Haiku. Our group of ten gathered by the barn as our guide introduced us to the mission: a living refuge for animals saved from neglect, slaughter, or abandonment.

Our tour began amid sprawling greenery—deer grazing nearby, tortoises lumbering through shaded bowers, cats perched on low branches. I brushed a goat named Daisy, whose coat shimmered in the sun, and gave a pig—a friendly girl called Charlotte—a belly scratch she clearly appreciated. Each interaction was accompanied by the guide’s story: how the animal arrived, what trauma they’d overcome, and how the sanctuary’s volunteers lifted them into safety.

“Brushing a rescued goat under Maui’s morning sun reminded me what true sanctuary feels like.”

The farm felt alive—imbued with purpose. One moment I was feeding guinea pigs in a botanical garden area, the next I was planting compost beside rescued chickens wandering freely. A swan glided past, dignified and calm. Our final pause was by a pond overlooking rolling pasture towards the ocean; a gentle moment of reflection, existing shoulder to shoulder with animals who found home here.

A child nearby sighed, “I never knew I could love a farm like this.” That’s the gift of Leilani Farm Sanctuary: heart-opening, healing, and profoundly rooted in compassion.
