WHAT GUESTS ARE SAYING
4.9★ from 270+ reviews on TripAdvisor
Guests love this tour for its genuine feel — real horses, real ranch hands, and a real connection to Maui’s ranching history. Many mention how welcoming and patient the guides are, especially with beginners or families. Riders say the views alone are worth it: distant islands, rolling pastures, and the peaceful sense of stepping into a slower world for a few hours. By the end, most feel they’ve seen a side of Maui that few tourists ever do.
On this tour, we ride down to the range and hear stories of ancient Hawaiian history as we ride past Pii'moi on our way check the nursery (cows and calves). This tours also includes the old well, and two amazing lookout points of the last lava flow on Maui. On a clear day you’ll see the neighboring islands of Hawaii Island, Kaho’olawe and Molokini too! While our paniolo check water lines you’ll get a full tour of the pastures, and the unique Hawaiian history and cultural practices. Fun for the whole family! Cold drinks and snacks provided.

FOLIO TRAVELOGUE
Kula Ranch Ride: Cattle‑Check Through Lava Fields and Island Vistas
The morning air at Kula feels different—cooler, sacred, tinged with the scent of grass and history. We saddled up under the watchful eye of our paniolo guide and set out across the open range, our horses stepping over uneven ground shaped by centuries of lava flow. I felt the rhythm of the ride in my bones, the soft sway as we moved deeper into the ranch.
We passed the historic well and paused at the first lookout: a panorama of black lava fields, green pastures, and the sparkling Pacific beyond. Stories followed—of paniolo traditions, ancient cattle brands, and the volcanic birth of this landscape. Then came the cattle check: mothers and calves grazing, the guide explaining how the ranch cares for each herd.
“Riding among cattle and lava in Kula, you feel the heartbeat of Maui’s paniolo past beneath every step.”
At the second lookout, the horizon unfolded wider: Molokini’s crescent, the silhouette of Hawaiʻi Island, and the quieter outline of Kahoʻolawe. My horse stood quietly with me, and for a moment, we were all still—ranch, horse, rider, island—connected by the same pulse.
By the time we rode back, crunching through pasture grass toward the stables, I felt like I’d stepped into Maui’s living history—not just touring it, but becoming part of it, one hoofbeat at a time.
